Marietta, Georgia offers many opportunities during the holidays for everyone! Whether you are in to traditional outings, family-friendly fun, or free offerings there is something for everyone.
The Square area and Glover Park of downtown Marietta is a beautiful location year-round, but especially during the holiday season. The city hosts a “Winter Wonderland” from mid-November and decorates the Marietta Square in a beautiful, picturesque way. To kick off the Wonderland, there is a public tree lighting and all are welcome to attend. Marietta City School students join in the lighting fun with a Festival of Trees in which Christmas trees are decorated, judged, and prizes are awarded. No worries if you miss the lighting because the Wonderland continues into January to include an open-air ice skating rink and pictures with Santa himself!
For those of you who are done with the holidays and would like to usher in the New Year, Marietta Square also offers something for you! Starting at 6:00 P.M. on New Year’s Eve, Glover Park will host family activities with live music by local musicians. A children’s Chick-Fil-A cow drop will happen at 7:00 P.M. Stay until midnight to watch the iconic Big Chicken Drop in a countdown to the New Year. A limited number of prime-location tables and seating are available to reserve for a fee for this event.
Another long-standing tradition of Marietta, Georgia is the “Lights of Life” at Life University. Starting in November, cars can ride through the campus to see a magical light display. When finished, families can enjoy pony rides, train rides, and concession stands that include roasting marshmallows and hot chocolate. Prices for admission to the light display vary depending on the day visited.
